About Julie
Imagine a performer who has the piano style that crosses Tori Amos with Sarah M
cLachlan, the vocal confidence of Alanis Morrissette, and the songwriting maturity of David Foster and Diane Warren, and you have the musical genius of Julie Rust. Will Kimbrough, renowned Americana artist, says of Julie, “She makes ponderous and beautiful music. Listening, I feel like she’s broken off a little piece of her soul, looked me in the eye and handed it over.”
Depth and honesty permeate Julie’s music and life. “As a child, playing piano was the only way I could truly be myself. Music always made me feel like I was in a safe place. It was another world. That may be why I only listen to music and write songs that make me feel good.”
At the age of 20, Julie toured Europe with the All-American Collegiate Showcase Band sponsored by Bob Hope. She graduated college with honors, earning a degree in Music Theory/Composition. She then spent several years touring the United States.
Starting a family kept her closer to home, enabling her to focus on writing and recording. When her daughters were 3 and 5, a near-death experience left her ill for five years. Doctors were unable to help her, and this became an opportunity for Julie to heal herself. The most important aspect of this healing was songwriting and playing music. Although these years were extremely challenging, they brought a heightened wisdom and experience to Julie’s life, which she shares with others, through her music and daily “Audible Insights” recordings.
Julie Rust has recorded 5 CDs and a poetry book entitled, “Little Awakenings.” She is currently recording her 6th CD.
